Listening to Translations

You'd like to listen to one of the translations provided at the event? Then check out the following information on how to get the best experience from your device!

If you're attending a talk in the lecture hall, use the following information. If you're watching the stream, please see below.

We're using Mumble to make the original as well as the translated audio available.

The channels available differ between events. Many smaller events might only have a single channel, while big events will have two channels per lecture hall. See our event-specific page for more information on which channels are available.

While connected to a channel, you will automatically be muted. Only the interpreters will be able to talk on these channels.

Go to https://mumble.c3lingo.org. The web page will present a choice of channels. Clicking the channel will start a web mumble client with the audio stream. We recommend using headphones with your computer or phone.

For the best experience, we recommend using a native Mumble client on your device. The official desktop client and this list of 3rd-party clients should help you pick an appropriate application.

Connect to hostname mumble.c3lingo.org, port 64738 (the default). Once connected, you will see a list of channels.

For detailed information on how to install and configure your Mumble client, please see the Mumble documentation. The following is a quick run through the basic configuration.

1. Start the Mumble client. The (empty) server list window should be shown. Otherwise, click the globe icon, or choose Server|Connect from the menu.
2. If you don't have mumble.c3lingo.org in your list of servers, click the Add New button, enter your nickname, then enter mumble.c3lingo.org for the address, then click OK.
3. Click Connect.
4. The main Mumble window is shown, with a list of channels on the right, Double click a channel name to join that channel.
5. At any point, click the gear icon to bring up the settings. Make sure the audio output settings are appropriate for your system and your gear.

That's it!

If you’re not in the audience, the video and audio streams provided by the VOC are by far the easiest solution. You’ll find a choice of translated streams in the Formats tab.
