c3lingo Interpreter's Console

For the first time at 39C3, we are using our own custom interpreter's consoles.

Features

  • Fully analog design for operational reliability
  • Up to three interpreters can use the console simultaneously
  • Mute permanent switch and cough momentary button to mute yourself

Console Controls

The console is split into three channels: left, middle and right. Each strips works exactly like the others. Each interpreter uses their own channel to control how loud they hear the floor, themselves and the two other interpreters, and how loud their microphone will be.

From top to bottom, these are the controls:

  1. Microphone level control
  2. Mute switch (on/off)
  3. Microphone level meter
  4. Volume control for (left to right) floor, yourself and other interpreters
  5. Cough button (momentary)
  6. (From left to right): microphone input, headphone output, master headphone volume

Additonally, at the back of the console, there is power, line in and line out.

Using the Console

When starting a shift, move all of your controls to the middle position. If possible perform a quick check for your own level as well as how loud you want your co-interpreters to be to you.

Your microphone level should stay in the green range, occasionally peaking into the red. If you have received instructions from VOC or similar, please stick to those!

Adjust the master headphone volume at the front and the three individual inputs to your liking. You might to adjust them during a talk as speakers or interpreters change.

Remember that the interpreter's audio is always live on audio.c3lingo.org, even when there is no talk happening.

Keep your channel muted using the mute switch on the top, until you are ready to speak. Mute yourself as soon as you are handing over to your co-interpreters.

Use the cough button whenever you need to mute yourself temporarily (coughing, taking a sip of water, etc.)

Headsets

VOC is supplying professional quality headsets for the consoles. Please do not try to connect your own, as this will likely result in audio problems.
